Job Title: Cost Estimator
The Cost Estimator plays a key role in supporting accurate project budgeting and financial planning. This position analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals, and related documents to prepare time, material, equipment, and labor estimates. The role provides both preliminary budgets for planning and detailed, itemized cost estimates for execution. Responsibilities include reviewing project data to determine material and labor needs, developing cost breakdowns, and supporting ongoing cost control efforts throughout the project lifecycle.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and related documents to prepare precise cost estimates.
- Develop and maintain detailed project budgets, cost breakdowns, and take-offs.
- Prepare estimates of materials, labor, and equipment, ensuring alignment with project scope.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to validate estimates and monitor costs.
- Review subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy and competitiveness.
- Support project forecasting, cost tracking, and variance reporting.
- Provide leadership with cost analysis, value engineering options, and recommendations for budget optimization.
- Stay current with market pricing, production rates, and industry cost trends.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of estimating or project budgeting experience in heavy civil construction or a related industry.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and cost control principles.
- Proficiency in estimating and budgeting software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Excel).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
